Discussion Model
What I like about this model: This model allows and encourages student voice more so than several of the other models. It gives the students something more fun to do other than the typical routine worksheets, tests, and standardized test preparation. They are able to become engaged rather than passive recipients. This model teaches students crucial social skills. Furthermore, it teaches them respect for one another's opinion.
What I don't like about this model: With younger elementary grades, this model can be harder to implement because they do not understand the concepts of discussion or just yet hold the required social skills. With time, this model can be taught to the students, but it would require a lot of practice.
How I can see myself utilizing this model: This model is great for social justice and democracy. I would use this model to teach social skills, community involvement, respect, multiculturalism, etc. Also, I would use this model from time to time just to give the students something new and exciting from the curriculum while still teaching the curriculum.
